This course focuses on an in-depth review and understanding of treaties and tribal constitutions as the cornerstone of tribal governance.

Specific topics will include the political and cultural dimensions of self-governance, a review of the responsibilities of the different branches of tribal government (including separation of powers), and the relationship of tribal governmets to federal and state governments.

Each participating tribe's treaties and constitutions will be specifically discussed.
