Preservation, Culture and Tradition: (Specialization Area: Tribal Social Systems)

This course is an overview of the social and traditional structures within tribal organizations.

Special attention will be given to issues of the role of elders. Generational differences, the role and uniqueness of gender, family structure, and the break-up of traditional extended families.

Also covered; emerging social issues such as gangs, elder care, and parenting in a technological age will be addressed. This will be presented in a culturally appropriate setting with an eye to preserving cultural and historical traditions.
