Social Networks: (Specialization Area: Communications)

This class will provide the participant with an understanding of social networks, their viability to community growth and strength; learning to develop collaborative relationships with others and entities inside and outside the reservation will be explored so that the participants can understand the cost/benefit of such possible relationships.

Examples of social networks to look at will be: NIEA, SDIEA, AIHEC, NARF, NICWA, NCAI, Indian Land Tenure Foundation, BIA, First Nations Development Institute, and other federal, state, or tribal entities.

Having an appreciation for social networks could enhance the participant's appreciation to work on such critical issues as: land, environment, natural resources, law/treaty issues, education, and cultural preservation to name a few.

Social networking could also lead to economic diversification of Native economies through partnerships.
